Living With Fibromyalgia

Living With Fibromyalgia

Fibromyalgia is a condition that is hard to diagnose, there are no tests to pinpoint this illness, no cure as yet although The Bowen Technique is a great alternative to manage the symptoms and treat the underlying cause. It is a condition that causes fatigue, sleeplessness and causes pain and tenderness throughout the body.

It is most common in women, affecting up to 4% of people, it most commonly occurs in middle age although young adults can also develop the condition.

It is thought Fibromyalgia may be genetic, although conditions such as arthritis, osteoarthritis, lupus, rheumatoid arthritis, or ankylosing spondylitis. physical stress, shock, emotional trauma could also play a part in the condition. The fibromyalgia patient suffers with a hypersensitivity of the pain response on touch, which is caused from an imbalance specific brain chemicals and proteins. The result is a change in the way the body “talks” with the spinal cord and brain, which is another reason Bowen is great. The Bowen technique works with the body’s fascia system that resets the body, which creates a message to the brain to allow the body to heal itself.

Fibromyalgia causes sensitivity and discomfort that causes pain especially on touching joints or muscles. As mentioned it can affect sleep causing exhaustion and fatigue, it can also cause problems with memory, anxiety, depression, digestive disorders can worsen or appear, headaches as well as many other conditions, all of which can be heightened with stress.

Because Fibromyalgia is a condition that is hard to detect, your GP will take you through blood tests and X-rays to rule out other conditions like hypothyroidism (underactive thyroid gland) and polymyalgia rheumatica as they can sometimes mimic fibromyalgia but tend to cause inflammation in joints and tissues rather than just pain and sensitivity.
