It's A Candida Thing
Posted by Marie Reynolds onDid you know that Candida is linked to many skin conditions including acne, eczema, psoriasis and blackheads! Yes – blackheads. I am forever banging on about the importance to treat the skin from within and one of the questions that is a common thread among facialists is from clients wanting blackhead removal or advice on exfoliation to reduce them.
Candida is a yeast infection that thrives where there is mucus, which is abundant in the vagina – causing discharge and irritation, the mouth which covers the tongue in a blanket of white fur and the gut. For me the main cause is from the foods we eat that cause mucus within the body, not just the gut (think of dairy and how it creates mucus in lungs and sinus’) . If you think about the colossal amounts of food we have ingested over our lifetime from babies, imagine the accumulation of mucus in the gut.
The overproduction of mucus acts as mortar setting crap – literally, along the gut wall. Not only allowing candida to reside and thrive but also parasites and toxins. This will prove difficult for essential nutrients from food to absorb via the gut into the bloodstream. Poor dietary habits will increase mucus further as well as inflammation in the gut resulting in poor wound healing, allergies, lethargy, digestive imbalances, discharge, skin inflammation and severe gut inflammation including Crohn’s and Colitis.
Candida is increased with certain food groups including carbohydrates, sugar, coffee, tea, alcohol etc also from stress influences which create acidic responses in the gut. Also highly perfumed skin products and cleansing products remember the skin is an organ that absorbs molecular substances which pass through the liver, gut etc. It also affects both men, women, babies and children.
Its symptoms include:
- Exhaustion/lethargy
- Cravings for sweets (including carbs – crisps, biscuits etc even alcohol – these all convert to sugar)
- Bad breath,
- Coating on tongue
- Brain fog
- Hormone imbalance
- Joint pain
- Loss of sex drive
- Chronic sinus and allergy issues
- Digestive problems (gas and bloating)
- Weak immune system
- UTI (urinary Tract Infection)
- Eczema, Psoriasis
- Itchy nose (an itch that cant be satisfied)
- Blackheads (indication of mucous in the gut)
Clearly, to avoid stress and certain foods will decrease the risk of Candida but the most successful way to tackle this nasty fungal infection is to reduce and clear mucus in the system.
